Benchmark Results at Phoronix Results indicate that the Fujitsu-Siemens® Celsius R550 is nearly as fast as an EC® Spartan server in the Super-pi benchmark. Given that the Celsius costs more than twice as much, I’m reasonably pleased with the results. I’ll bet Fujitsu-Siemens® is NOT. According to this test result, the ECC® – Spartan is… Continue reading Fujitsu Siemens® Celsius R550 competitive with ECC® Spartan in Super-pi benchmarks!

Howto: Fedora 11 “SoftRAID”
There is now a way to install F11 x64 or i686 on a Nvidia or Intel ICH10R RAID that was initially created using Windows. Install Fedora 9 x64 or i686 from the Full install DVD. Partition as needed. Once that is complete, use a minimal install set for Fedora 9. We do this for the… Continue reading Howto: Fedora 11 “SoftRAID”
Fedora 11 will not install on Intel or Nvidia based “soft” RAID.
Fedora 11 x64 as it is currently is not capable of creating a partition on a ICH10R or Nvidia C55 RAID array. Fedora 10 x64 is also impacted. Fedora 9 x64 works as expected. I hope this saves a few of you some grief in attempting the installation.
Primary Workstation completed!
I have finally completed building my new primary Workstation. The system that the Gurulog is hosted on a dedicated server again. I apologize for the long wait. I had a serious cold/flu for two weeks. Then it took a day to get the new workstation assembled and the operating systems installed. Workstation Hardware and Software… Continue reading Primary Workstation completed!
New Video Card, more RAM, Vista asks for activation again.
I installed a new Evga GTX260 core 216 video card into my E8400 based workstation. The video card generates a considerable amount of heat. This caused a hard drive in the E8400 workstation to get close to it’s temperature limits. I moved the card to the QX9650 workstation instead later in the evening. The QX9650… Continue reading New Video Card, more RAM, Vista asks for activation again.
Despite overwhelming performance evidence, some still promote AMD processors as superior.
In the last couple days I have spent some quality time, at Tom’s Hardware, reading. I typically enjoy the Best graphics card of the month articles. I check the latest graphics charts. I check the current CPU performance charts. I do that before I build a system. This time was no exception. I check the… Continue reading Despite overwhelming performance evidence, some still promote AMD processors as superior.
New Motherboard and Video Card on the way.
I just ordered a new Evga 780i FTW motherboard and a GTX260 Core 216 video card. The order is processed and the parts are being picked now. I will perform benchmarks and performance metrics will be available soon. I purchased 4G of RAM recently also. This is currently in the E8400 based Voyager server.
Quad vs. Duo
Another benchmark test this afternoon. Results were consistent with the previous results. An Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 outperformed an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 in several tests Quad outperformed in the SciMark2 Composite (by 20%) and Super Pi v2 (less than 1%) tests. Server performance
I have created several server environs in the past week. Today I bench marked one of my servers using Phoronix test suite. The results were astounding! My server running a Core 2 Duo E8400 processor was able to outperform an 8 way Xeon (Dell PowerEdge R900) and a 16 way Xeon server in standardized tests.… Continue reading Server performance
Fedora 10 on ICH10R not compatible
I’ve been attempting to get one of my servers upgraded to Fedora 10 64 bit. It is occupying a considerable amount of my time of late. I am sure I will have a few posts worth of information about that when I have it completed.
